Utada Hikaru has announced that she will release a new singles collection this fall, before taking an indefinite break from music at the start of next year. The singer, who started her career more than 15 years ago, explained that she has neglected part of her personal growth, so she felt that it was necessary to take a break.
Utada began singing under the name Cubic U in her early teens, and she released her debut album “Precious” in 1998, when she was 15 years old. Reflecting on her career up to this point, she stated that she has been focused on her life as an artist, but part of her growth as a person has stopped. At the start of next year, she will put her career on hold to focus on her own personal life, though she has not decided when she plans to resume singing. Right now, she feels that her growth is the priority, but she said that she will return when she naturally feels that she wants to share her music again, though it could be after a few years.
Her last release may be the upcoming singles collection, titled “Utada Hikaru SINGLE COLLECTION VOL.2.” It is her first best album in roughly six and a half years. It will include hits such as “Dareka no Negai ga Kanau Koro,” “Be My Last,” and “Beautiful World,” plus at least one new song. The exact release date has not yet been announced.
