Former Morning Musume member Kago Ai (23) apparently attempted suicide this morning. Azabu police received an emergency call at around 11:55am on September 11 and upon entering Kago’s Roppongi apartment authorities found her dazed and with a slit wrist. Kago was taken to a nearby hospital and is listed in stable, non-life-threatening condition. It is suspected that she may have consumed a large amount of drugs.
According to police, Kago had spoken over the phone with her agency just before the incident. Her words suggested that she was contemplating suicide, so the person from the agency rushed to her apartment, where Kago was discovered on the floor.
Life has been less than stable for Kago of late and this suicide attempt comes just a few days after the on September 6 arrest and questioning of her boyfriend, Ando Haruhiko (44) who is believed to be associated with the yakuza, for attempted extortion. Kago, who reportedly is living with Ando, was also taken in for questioning.
