AKB48’s newest single, “Ue kara Mariko” sold over 1 million copies making AKB48 the first group ever to have 4 consecutive first week million selling singles. They are tied now with rock band GLAY with 5 consecutive million selling singles (their first single of the year took more than a week to reach the milestone). And they now have a total of 6 million selling singings which has puts them past other top female artists such as Namie Amuro, Ayumi Hamasaki and Utada Hikaru. Expect AKB48 to continue to re-write the records.
Of course the important news is Ho-Kago Tea Time having two singles on the charts this week (not the first time for this fictional band). The K-ON! movie opening theme song “Unmei♪wa♪Endless!” at #5 and ending theme song “Singing!” at #4 sung by the character seiyuu’s in the fictional band Ho-Kago Tea Time. The K-ON! movie opened December 3rd and has so far had very strong two weekends at the box office (#2 and #4).
On the album charts Jin Akanishi’s American debut album, “TEST DRIVE featuring Jason Derulo” topped the charts and in second is Sandaime J Soul Brothers with their album “TRIBAL SOUL.”
