The new single from supercell, "My Dearest" will be released tomorrow, November 23rd. This is the first single with vocalist Koeda (15) who was chosen from among 2,000 applicants. “My Dearest” is featured as the opening theme for current anime “Guilty Crown.” Single release details and some translated excerpts from interview with ryo via Natalie Power Push follow,
Q — this new single “My Dearest” has new vocalist, Koeda, why was it time for a change with the vocalist?
ryo – “The first album vocalist was Miku, I used nagi for the second so I wanted to change again when I considered what to do for the next album”
Q — for a high-profile unit as supercell it was an interesting way to audition for the new vocalist. But did you hear all 2,000 applicant voices.
ryo – “Listen to. Not because there were no others who could choose well but its better to listen yourself. I was on a tight schedule to get through all 2,000 (laughs). There were many different talents and other good candidates. Ultimately Koeda gave me the feeling that with her the songs would take us in the right direction. Thanks to all this work we found a very good vocalist.”
Q — with Koeda what direction did you provide in recording sessions?
ryo – “Well, Koeda is given the song and I say ‘Try to sing well’…(laughs). Others may give the lyrics and say to sing it this way, I may have said such things as this before but not anymore in Koeda’s case. After, I go and find her singing to herself. I like to record one song through and I’ll ask ‘one more time’, what she sings will change. You repeat it and I feel we are able to find how to sing the song. Sing about 10 times, each singing a combination of good parts.”
