Idol group Nogizaka46 announced during their weekly variety show “Nogizaka tte, Doko?” their 3rd single and the senbatsu member selections. Sixteen members have been selected for the single, seven members selected as the Shichifukujin or Seven Deities of Good Luck which will get most of the opportunities for media promotions, and Sakurai Reiko who had been serving as interim captain is officially promoted to captain for the group. The new single isn’t yet titled but the release date will be August 22nd. More early information on the single follows.
Nogizaka46 was formed by Sony Music Entertainment in August 2011 to compete with AKB48. As part of their “official rivalry” with AKB48 the group only has 46 members with which producer Akimoto Yasushi stated they can “succeed with fewer members”.
Their weekly variety show begin airing October 2011 and they released a debut single “Guru Guru Curtain” on February 22nd and saw it chart #2 its opening week. Their second single “Oide Shampoo”, released May 2nd, became their first #1 one charting single (release details).
