The remake of the classic anime Space Battleship Yamato 2199 (Uchu Senkan Yamato 2199) has announced its 4th installment that covers episodes 11-14. The original Space Battleship Yamato (also known as Star Blazers) 1974 anime series was created by Leiji Matsumoto covers 26 episodes. The anime follows the story of the human race after being defeated in a war with the Gamilos. Scientists estimate they only have one year left before mankind is wiped out. Now the young officers of the space battleship Yamato must travel across the Magellan Galaxy to retrieve mankind’s last hope to defeat the Gamilos and restore Earth.
The remake is directed by Yutaka Izubuchi (Rahxephon, Patlabor) and Hideaki Anno, director of Evangelion, will design the new series opening sequence. Animation production is handled by AIC and Xebex.
The 4th Blu-ray release include episodes 11 through 14 is region free and includes English subtitles. Also includes a special booklet and First Press versions adds slip jacket illustrated by character designer Nobuteru Yuki. Special features included on the disk – interview with Izubuchi Yutaka (episode director/storyboards), textless opening, digest of chapter 3, promotional videos, and audio commentary.
